Dr. Riggs is certified to provide acupuncture within his scope of practice in Texas. In Michigan, chirorpactors are not allowed to use acupuncture needles. Alternatives include electromechanical stimulators and laser to treat acupuncture points. He also does various forms of myofascial release with cupping and Graston.
Laser treatment using acupuncture points can assist with:
•Headaches •Neck & Back Pain •Joint Pain •Musculoskeletal Pain •Lower extremity pain (knee/feet/hip) •Upper extremity pain (shoulder/elbow/wrist/carpal tunnel)
Acupuncture is the Chinese heath care system that works by moving energy in the body along what are called meridians. By stimulating specific points along one or more of 12 meridian pathways, health can be improved, pain reduced, and many conditions treated. Since needle acupuncture is not allowed in Michigan chiropractic scope, we can look at laser acupuncture, acupressur, electromechanical stimulators, cupping (brings blood to the point and releases myofascia), and moxibustion (placing a lighted moxa over the area to bring heat).
Dr. Riggs has a Certificate of Attainment from the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE) which requires training in acupuncture and passing a national board test. He is not trained in Chinese medicines (herbs) at this time. Alternatives to needle acupuncture are used to stimulate the meridians and points (acupressure, laser, electromechanical stimulators).
